Ludhiana 15 June – Department of Dairy Technology, College of Dairy Science & Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University, Ludhiana organized National Webinar (Industry Academia Interface) on topic ‘Indian Dairy Processing Sector Amidst Covid-19 Crisis’ under the leadership of Dr S.K.Uppal, Dean College of Dairy Science and Technology and Dr. Prakash Singh Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science and Principal Investigator- ICAR, NAHEP, Institutional Development Project (IDP).
Dr S.Sivakumar Head, Department of Dairy Technology cum Organizing Secretary of the National webinar welcomed the participants and resource persons from different parts of the country who attended this webinar and also discussed the importance of the webinar in the present scenario. India is world’s leading milk producer, but, the present scenario, the spread of COVID-19 had forced the country to go under lockdown leading to economic hardship to all the persons involved in the dairy sector. Therefore, to concise the situation during and after pandemic for Indian dairy processing sector, this webinar was planned to convert the crisis into opportunities.
Sudhir Kumar Singh, Managing Director, Jharkhand Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited, Ranchi appraised the participants on topic “Status of Dairy Cooperatives in India before and after COVID 19-Outbreak”. His discussion was focused about the challenges faced in dairy industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. The real time problems faced from procurement of milk to sales were discussed with the participants.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Professor cum Head from Dairy Technology Division of Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, BASU-Patna presented his views on ‘Role of Dairy Processing in combating the adverse impact on Dairy Industry in wake of Covid-19 pandemic through value addition of milk’. Under this topic, participants were made aware about the needs for value addition of milk during and after COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed upon the conversion of milk in to various traditional Indian dairy products owing to higher profit margin.
The participants interacted with the speakers and queries were addressed. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Rekha Chawla, Venus Bansal. Dr. V.P.Singh informed that Industry Academia Interface at National Level during COVID-19 crisis is needed for the policy makers of Indian dairy processing sector to prioritize the sets after COVID-19 era.
