Ludhiana 14 May – Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has been reopened since yesterday (12 May 2020) to undertake ‘Urgent, Need based University work’, using 33% of its staff in attendance, in accordance with guidelines of the government. This was necessary to take care of a lot of important precious Germplasm, Biological materials, Samples, urgent ongoing long-term research, University animal farms having a pool of 13000 animals’ heads viz. – small, large, poultry including laboratory animals along with 100 acres of farm land cultivated for fodder. GADVASU’s specialized veterinary clinics was getting 50-100 sick animals daily for treatment during lockdown period under emergency services. Varsity is observing all hygiene / sanitary guidelines along with social distancing prescribed by Punjab Government. The attending staff is entering their workplace through an earmarked place as ‘Entry’, sanitize their hands and are checked by thermal scanner for temperature.
GADVASU is the only and the First University in Punjab which has been opened after the lockdown revealed Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana. This step is taken in the larger interest of University research, animal welfare and farmers’ economy.
